ALİ CAN ÖZTAN
Drums

Born in Ankara in 1992, he began his studies in 2003 at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory in the Percussion Instruments Department with Tarkan Yedican and continued with Hakan Yedican from 2006 onwards. He studied chamber music with Assoc. Prof. Haşim Yedican. Until he completed his undergraduate education, he participated in numerous national and international orchestras, recording projects, modern ensembles, and festivals, notably including the Presidential Symphony Orchestra and Bilkent Symphony Orchestra.

He graduated with "High Honors" from Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory Percussion Department in 2015. In the same year, he performed Béla Bartók's "Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion" with Can Kıyıcı, Cem Babacan, and Başarcan Kıvrak, accompanied by the Presidential Symphony Orchestra. He also performed this piece live with Can Kıyıcı at the International Bartók Festival in 2016. Additionally, he participated in the Turkish premiere of Fazıl Say's "Bells" for piano, percussion, and choir.

 

 

In the following years, he collaborated with virtuosos such as Christian Benning, Peter Sadlo (Munich HFMT), Cornelia Monske (Hamburg HFMT), Nick Woud (Concertgebouw), Tom Greenleaves (Gewandhaus), Raymond Curfs (Bayerische Rundfunk), Marinos Tranoudakis (Athens Opera), and Emre Kartari (Virginia Commonwealth University). In 2020, percussionist and composer Soner Özer composed the piece "Combination" dedicated to him. In 2022, he performed Mark Berry's "Mehteran" for solo timpani at the 20th International North Cyprus Music Festival.
 

 

During the 2017-2018 season, he was part of the Ankara State Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Since 2018, he has been serving as a Timpani/Percussion artist with the TRNC Presidential Symphony Orchestra, a Percussion artist with the Tekfen Philharmonic Orchestra, and a Timpani/Percussion artist with the Fazıl Say Festival Orchestra. He is also an artist for the Italian mallet/stick company "MG Mallets."
